Subarnarekha Port Organises Training Programme on Livelihood for Women in Dagara, Baliapal

40 local women join the training on Sabai Grass Handicrafts

Baliapal:Subarnarekha Port Private Limited (SPPL), in collaboration with Tata Steel Foundation (TSF), has initiated a training program on Sabai Grass handicraft items for women self-help groups (SHGs) at Dagra Gram Panchayat, Baliapal in Baleshwar district.

The opening session of the programme was attended by Sri Satyananda Mohanthy, Sarpanch of Dagra Gram Panchayat, Pramod Kumar, Senior Divisional Manager – Administration at SPPL, and Pramod Kumar Patra, Lead at Tata Steel Foundation.

The two-month training program will be conducted by two certified trainers in the Training of Trainers (TOT) model. The programme aims to enhance the capabilities of the trainees to impart training to other SHGs dealing in Sabai Grass handicraft items in the area.

In addition to enhancing the quality and quantity of the products made by the SHGs, the training program will empower the 70 women who will be participating in the initiative, making them self-reliant and financially independent. The initiative includes providing training materials such as Sabai Grass, colored threads, bleaching powder, silk thread, measurement tape, stitching materials, and other necessary materials. SPPL is also reaching out to e-commerce platforms to facilitate market linkages for the products of the SHGs.
SPPL plans to conduct such programmes for SHGs across the villages in and around the port project. The next SHG training programme is planned to be conducted in Chaumukh Village, Baliapal.
